John,

Fear. Shame. Forgiveness. Healing.

These are the words that come to mind the most when I think about my five abortions.

These are the words that were repeated throughout the conversation I had with another post-abortive woman, two abortion survivors, and Lila Rose in one of Live Action’s “Face to Face” videos, which just released this week.

As we all expressed in the conversation, healing from something as traumatic as abortion is a life-long process, but the way healing occurs in new ways is often a beautiful surprise. This conversation was one example.

I never thought I’d eventually be sitting across from survivors of the very thing that killed five of my children. Looking into their faces was painful but profound. Their expressions of forgiveness unlocked new avenues of healing for me.

I hope you take the time to watch this entire video. It was a blessing to share my story and listen to the stories of those at this table with me and know that Live Action’s audience of millions online is hearing and learning from our experiences. 

Something that stood out to me was that Emily’s abortion stories had so many overlaps with mine, and yet before we started connecting with fellow post-abortive women, we each felt we were alone in our pain.

Even though I was miserable throughout, I was only able to stop the cycle of getting abortions once I connected with pro-life people and the resources they provided. 

The beautiful discovery from my abortion experiences, and reiterated through this “Face to Face” conversation, is that we are made to be in communion with others. We flourish when we allow God to take over and when we live with and for others.
