A weekly wrap of ADL’s reports, updates and analysis on antisemitism around the world.

UPDATE FROM FRANCE
Today in Paris, France hosted Israel in a Nations League soccer match. But this was no ordinary game. It came on the heels of violent attacks by antisemitic mobs who carried out a pogrom, hunting supporters of the Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer club through the streets of Amsterdam. Thousands of police officers helped to ensure a peaceful event today, and the crowd in the stadium included French President Emmanuel Macron and other French dignitaries. An ADL delegation led by CEO Jonathan Greenblatt and SVP of International Affairs Marina Rosenberg was there after a week of high-level meetings across Europe. As Jonathan said about the significance of the sporting event... “I commend President
Macron and French authorities for ensuring today’s game takes place and standing firm against antisemitism and extremism. This is how every liberal democracy should act; we can’t abandon the field to extremists and antisemites.”

ADL’s representatives started the week in Amsterdam and met with the Dutch Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Justice Minister to convey the urgent need to support and protect the Jewish community and Israelis. In Germany, they met with a Vice President of the Bundestag (parliament) and other leading members of that body. In Belgium, there were meetings at the European Parliament. Today in France, ADL was there at the stadium to express our support for the Israeli athletes and to call on all sports leaders to honor the unifying spirit of sports, to condemn antisemitism and all forms of discrimination and to strengthen measures to protect fans and athletes. In each of these
countries, ADL also met with Jewish leaders to show the solidarity and the unity of our community across the globe.
SPEAK OUT: Join ADL in urging sports organizations to take swift action now to prioritize the safety and dignity of all fans.

ADL Analysis: JVP as a Voice Against Israel and Zionism
Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) is the largest and most influential anti-Zionist Jewish group in the United States, and is a conspicuous partner in the current wave of anti-Israel protests on campus. It promulgates the view that Jews who identify even tangentially with Israel are motivated by white supremacy, Jewish racial chauvinism and religious supremacism.

ADL’s backgrounder on JVP, find out more about how the JVP chapters that are active on college campuses work closely with fellow anti-Israel student group Students for Justice in Palestine to promote anti-Israel initiatives, messages and events. JVP is a strong proponent of the BDS movement and has participated in campaigns that push anti-Israel boycotts and divestment resolutions. It is also part of a campaign to force universities to ban Hillel on college campuses.

Steamed about Steam: ADL investigators identified more than 1.8 million unique pieces of extremist or hateful content, including explicitly antisemitic, neo-Nazi and Islamist terrorist material on Steam, the world’s most popular online gaming marketplace. The hate-symbol image detection in this study was conducted using HateVision, a proprietary AI tool developed by the ADL Center on Extremism that can analyze vast amounts of data to detect hate, extremism and antisemitism.

New Tool for Universities to Help Jewish Students: ADL and Gratz College have created a campus climate survey that university administrators can use to assess Jewish student experiences, promoting inclusivity and a deeper understanding of campus antisemitism. This tool equips schools with tried-and-tested survey questions that capture the prevalence and impact of antisemitism on their campuses. This initiative enables administrators, staff, faculty and students to better address the challenges Jewish students face and, by gathering uniform data, to make it possible to compare campus climates nationwide so responses can be data-driven and effective.

VIEW: Memories of Kristallnacht: As we marked 86 years since Kristallnacht, we had the honor of hosting a powerful conversation between Holocaust survivor Renate Zelovic and her granddaughter, ADL’s Ariel Behrman. Watch the recording of this moving discussion in which Renate, for the first time publicly, shared her memories of Kristallnacht, her experience in a Jewish orphanage and her evacuation from Germany to England on a Kindertransport.

@JGreenblattADL
Rep. Matt Gaetz has a long history of trafficking in antisemitism — from explaining his vote against the bipartisan Antisemitism Awareness Act by invoking the centuries-old trope that Jews killed Jesus to defending the Great Replacement Theory and inviting a Holocaust denier as his 2018 State of the Union guest. He should not be appointed to any high office, much less one overseeing the impartial execution of our nation's laws.

Congratulations to @SenMarcoRubio on his nomination as the next Secretary of State. Senator Rubio has been a leader in bipartisan efforts to fight global antisemitism and a strong supporter of Israel. We look forward to our continued partnership as he enters this new role.

We met with @PreislerKa, a brave and unwavering advocate who stands up for the Israeli hostages and Israeli women every day. Despite facing danger, including threats at anti-Israel protests in Berlin, Karoline remains resolute. Thank you, Karoline, for your courage and dedication. We need more voices like yours! #BringThemHome

When Melhem Asad saw the pogrom in Amsterdam start, he instinctively yelled in Arabic to distract the assailants. Thank you, Melhem, for this act of bravery. We hope your courage inspires others to follow your example when they see antisemitism happening.

We thank Trader Joe’s for not bowing to demands from protest groups when it comes to the products they carry — particularly in the case of Israeli-made goods. We hope other companies will look to Trader Joe’s as an example of how to uphold one’s values and not give in to hate.

We are disgusted by the far-right extremists who praised Hitler and waved Nazi flags outside of an American Legion hosting the play “The Diary of Anne Frank,” and we stand with American Legion 141 and @HowellTownship who know that hate doesn't belong in their community.
