Our Fight Isn’t Over!
Dear Friends,
It’s been a challenging week as we navigate the consequences of the recent elections. While every president has the right to nominate their cabinet, I must express my strong opposition to all of Trump's picks thus far. One nomination, in particular, stands out as unfit, unqualified, and dangerous for a vital position in our government: Matt Gaetz for Attorney General.
We know how Trump has previously attempted to use Attorneys General as personal allies to settle scores. With Gaetz in this role, all safeguards and accountability would be dismantled. His troubling history, which includes allegations of sexual misconduct and ties to sex trafficking, raises serious concerns. Just yesterday, he resigned from Congress to evade a damning bipartisan report from the House Ethics Committee regarding his conduct.
Prominent Republicans, including Senator Lisa Murkowski, former Ambassador John Bolton, and former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, have already condemned this nomination. We must not allow this precarious choice to proceed.
I urge you to reach out to Republican incoming Majority Leader John Thune and any Republican senators. Call their offices and demand they oppose Gaetz's nomination. It's essential to remind them not to relinquish their responsibility by allowing recess appointments to sidestep the Senate’s confirmation process.

As we grapple with these election outcomes, it may feel daunting to uphold the values we cherish. Now, more than ever, we must double down and fight for our principles. It's easy to champion what’s right when our side controls the White House and Congress; this is our true test of commitment and character.
Let’s make our voices heard and stand up for the integrity of our government. As Bob Marley wisely said, “You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice.” Let’s choose strength and action as we advocate for our values and our country.
Best,
Dr. Asif Mahmood
