Every Black Friday, millions flock to malls and flood online stores, hypnotized and ravenous at the promise of can’t-miss-deals . . . doom-spending and racking up credit-card debt with total abandon.

Year after year, we sacrifice our future upon the altar of unchecked consumerism. Beyond unhealthy habits, beyond mere shopping - this is a rite of pure evil, complete with a gift receipt and wrapped up in a holiday bow.

It’s time we killed off this perverse ritual before it kills us.
