Folks — the GOP majority in the Senate have chosen their next leader, Senator John Thune from South Dakota.

Thune, 63, is seen as an even-tempered institutionalist and seasoned legislator who has close relationships with many of his fellow Republicans. He currently serves as the chamber's No. 2 Republican and will succeed 82-year-old Mitch McConnell, the longest serving party leader in Senate history. He was first elected to the Senate in 2004.

Let us be clear, Thune is an anti-abortion extremist with a 100% anti-abortion voting scorecard who, in his own words, “has consistently supported a ban on abortion.” He celebrated the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade and proudly boasts an A+ rating from anti-abortion organizations.

Thanks to Arizonans showing up earlier this month, abortion care is protected in Arizona — but we have to fight for the state leaders working to make sure abortion care stays protected in Arizona.
