PACIFIC HIGHLANDS RANCH LIBRARY GRAND OPENING | We cut the ribbon on the Pacific Highlands Ranch Library! Libraries foster lifelong learning and play a fundamental role in enriching civic life. With this grand opening, residents of Pacific Highlands Ranch and neighboring communities will have access to the expansive resources of the San Diego Public Library system, study rooms to meet and collaborate, an IDEA lab, and outdoor spaces, featuring a unique public art installation. Thank you to the community, the developer, and city staff for working together on the design and construction of our newest and most sustainable library. | In August, I joined Townspeople, Regional Task Force on Homelessness, and Father Joe’s Villages, to launch an ambitious 100-day campaign to place 75 individuals experiencing homelessness into shared housing. This week, we celebrated housing 69 individuals. Shared housing offers the opportunity for affordability, safety and security, and emotional support. A small but important piece of addressing homelessness. | NO MORE PARKING NEAR STREET CORNERS | California’s new "daylighting" law (AB413), will be in effect on January 1, 2025, but what exactly does that mean? Simply put, it will be illegal to park within 20 feet of any marked or unmarked crosswalk. Why? To increase safety for both drivers and pedestrians, “daylighting” improves visibility and can reduce accidents. Intersections that tend to have high foot traffic will be marked with red curb painting and signage; nevertheless, parking will be illegal whether there is a red curb or not. For the first 60 days as drivers adjust to the new law, warnings will be issued to violators before fines are enforced. “Daylighting” aligns with the City of San Diego’s Vision Zero goals, which aims to eliminate traffic fatalities by promoting safer streets for everyone on the road. | CELEBRATING MBHS TRACKSTAR CHRIS ADAMSON | On Tuesday, City Council proclaimed Chris Adamson Day in honor of the Mission Bay High School student’s exceptional athletic achievements, proving that physical limitations do not define one’s potential. As San Diego’s first fully blind (T11) high school athlete, Chris has set multiple national track and field records and received national recognition. Congratulations, Chris—keep running! We are proud of you. | Council President Pro Tem Joe LaCava Follow me on social media to stay up to date. | |
