Dear John,

While many move on as soon as topline election results are called, our work for voters—defending free, fair, and resilient elections—is in full swing. We’re still in the thick of one of our busiest times, and in moments like this, it's our fellow democracy defenders that keep us motivated.

We take inspiration from the deep commitment of our nation’s election officials. Despite formidable obstacles this year, election officials once again delivered on their oaths and ran a smooth election. But their work doesn’t stop after Election Day; it extends to transparent post-election audits ([link removed]) and other routine checks designed to ensure that every eligible vote is accurately counted. Heading into the certification phase of this election cycle, we’re advising election officials and observing ongoing election processes on the ground in states like Georgia, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Nevada.

Our work for voters continues year round. Democracy works best when every voter has justified confidence in the process, but despite a relatively quiet post-election period, many challenges remain. While most voters seek accurate information about how elections work, all too often we find ourselves increasingly siloed in where we get our news, and disinformation about election processes remains a persistent threat. Election officials need resources and support to help break through the noise, and we’ll continue advocating for sustained funding and protections, providing resources, and giving the public accurate information about how our elections work. Our advocacy team is also preparing to engage in ongoing battles for secure and resilient elections that will take place in the early 2025 legislative sessions.

Each election is not an end point—it’s a milestone on a winding path. The landscape will continue to change and evolve, just as our work has evolved in the 20 years since our founding. We’re steadfastly committed to our vision that all voters are able to cast an effective ballot without barriers; that voters can have justified confidence that their votes were counted as cast; and that ultimately, foundational democratic principles are upheld. Please join us and support our ongoing mission with a gift ([link removed]) —to strengthen democracy for all voters.

With gratitude,
Pam Smith, President & CEO
