Together with The Onion, we're turning the page on this toxic chapter of misinformation.

Hi–

Today, The Onion won its bid to acquire Infowars, the notorious harbinger of disinformation, misinformation, and hate speech helmed by its founder: professional Internet troll Alex Jones.

Alex Jones has grossly profited off the pain of Sandy Hook families, and his brand of hateful disinformation has seeped into mainstream American culture.

That's why we're excited to be joining The Onion as the new site's exclusive launch advertiser, collaborating with them as they repurpose the intellectual property of Infowars and turn it into a tool to combat disinformation and extremism.

Screenshot from the New York Times story. Headline reads "The Onion Says It Has Bought Infowars, Alex Jones's Site, Out of Bankruptcy". The subheader reads "The satirical news site planned to turn Infowars into a parody of itself, mocking "weird internet personalities" who peddle conspiracy theories and health supplements." The article was published on November 14, 2024, and written by Benjamin Mullen. The screenshot is accompanied by a photo of Alex Jones speaking to press.

This new venture will not only staunch the flow of hurtful misinformation, but it also holds significant potential for us to reach new audiences in the fight for gun safety.

The Onion has long called out America's need to combat gun violence. Through this multi-year advertising relationship, we'll leverage the former Infowars platform to extend our advocacy work and deliver facts about gun violence to a much broader audience, including young people, men, and conservatives.

We're thrilled to be a part of turning the page on this toxic chapter of misinformation—and will keep you updated on what's to come.

Thanks for being a part of this movement,
