Senator Bernie Sanders’s legislation to halt a $20 billion weapons sale to Israel before Trump takes office is planned for next week.1

This action is our best chance to stop the flow of weapons to Israel that have supported the horrific wars on the people of Gaza and Lebanon. Trump is ready to further intensify U.S. support for Netanyahu's wars, so Congress must send a clear message to the Israeli leader right away.

When he introduced the legislation, Sen. Sanders noted that America’s continued funding and weapons support to Israel is a breach of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 and the Arms Export Control Act.2 Because Israel has blocked humanitarian aid from reaching the people of Gaza, American law says military funding for Israel must end. Two federal U.S. agencies even agreed with this finding, but Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the Biden administration rejected the reports.3

Over 43,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s onslaught on Gaza — even so-called humanitarian zones are not safe for civilians. If our leaders want to end this war, stop a wider war with Iran, and halt the murder of so many innocent people, the Biden administration and Congress must act right now.
