As we continue to process the events of last week, it’s important to stay focused on what we were able to accomplish here in Connecticut. We have so much to be proud of, and we should take time to recognize the wins and progress we’ve made together this year.
One of these wins is Connecticut’s continued commitment to expanding access to voting. This year’s introduction of early voting in Connecticut allowed voters to cast their ballot on their own schedule. In doing so, they voted to further expand voting rights, passing a ballot referendum to add no-excuse absentee voting.
In the next legislative session, the General Assembly will work with partners and advocates such as the ACLU of Connecticut to enact measures to put no-excuse balloting in place and establish rules.
These milestones are only possible because of your dedication and engagement. You showed up to knock on doors, volunteered to make calls, and contributed to help us broaden our message.
And your hard work paid off for voting rights in Connecticut!
Your commitment to keeping our communities informed is moving our state toward a future where every eligible voter has the flexibility to participate, regardless of their schedule, circumstances, or ability to reach a polling place on Election Day.
