NIJC will continue to defend immigrant rights

As we prepare for the next presidential administration, NIJC maintains our commitment to protecting the rights of immigrants, refugees, and people seeking asylum. Our communities now face a serious fight to uphold human rights and due process. Our shared values of family unity, freedom, and access to justice are at stake.

Together with you, our loyal supporters, we will: 1) Help communities and families stay together by providing legal services, 2) Defend access to asylum in the federal courts and in local communities, and 3) Defend human rights for all. Read the full statement from NIJC's executive director, Mary Meg McCarthy, here.

IN THE NEWS: In an interview with CNN, NIJC Executive Director Mary Meg McCarthy reiterated NIJC's commitment to advocate for the rights of immigrants and refugees. “We will continue our work of providing critical legal representation to immigrants and refugees, fighting to keep families together, defending access to asylum, and advocating for the end of arbitrary detention and unjust deportation,” said McCarthy.

In the coming year, we are relying on your support and advocacy to defend immigrants. Keep your eye on your inbox for action alerts and messages from us when we need you to take action!

ICE’s racial data practices challenged by immigration advocates

The Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI) has acquired new records that both challenge U.S. immigration agencies' claim that they don't collect racial data and show disturbing practices of trying to "hide" Black migrants to cloud any systemic discriminatory practices.

IN THE NEWS: In an interview with Prism, NIJC Senior Policy Analyst Jesse Franzblau said, "ICE’s failure to report racial data 'makes it more difficult to track the abuses that are carried out along racial lines,'" and that in detention, "Black people are more likely to be put in solitary confinement and given lengthier detentions."
