Where does YOUR supermarket rank on tackling pesticides?

We are very excited to report that our new Supermarket Ranking launched today!

We have ranked the UK’s ten biggest supermarkets on their efforts to protect consumers, farmworkers, and wildlife from pesticides. While some supermarkets are doing MUCH better than others, all ten could be doing more to tackle pesticide harms. This is particularly true when it comes to protecting bees and other pollinators from pesticides since all of the UK’s ten largest supermarkets continue to use neonicotinoids and other highly bee-toxic pesticides in their global supply chains.

That’s why we are asking you to join us in urging supermarkets to commit to ending the use of all highly bee-toxic pesticides throughout their global supply chains by 2030 at the very latest.

TAKE ACTION

A huge thank you if you are one of the thousands of people that have contacted supermarkets before about bees and pesticides. Thanks to your campaigning, supermarkets have made a range of positive changes that benefit wildlife.

For example:

Co-op, Lidl and Waitrose stopped selling harmful garden pesticides, such as weedkillers.
Six supermarkets are trialling non-chemical alternatives to pesticides for use around their stores and car parks. They are also considering planting wildflowers and other bee-friendly plants on their verges.
Most supermarkets now restrict the use of neonicotinoids and many other bee-toxic pesticides. This means that their suppliers around the world must seek specific permission to use these chemicals and submit a plan for minimising harms.

But simply restricting the use of bee-toxic pesticides isn’t enough to reverse global declines in pollinator populations. That’s why we are hoping you can keep up the pressure on supermarkets by contacting their CEOs again, this time urging them to ban all highly bee-toxic pesticides from their global supply chains by 2030 at the very latest.

TAKE ACTION

The pressure is working but we need supermarkets to move further and faster, and nothing influences them as much as hearing from their customers. To keep growing the movement, please do consider sharing our online action with friends and family.
