I promise to fight fiercely for New York

John,

Today, my office released a new report that takes a sober look at the threats a Trump presidency poses to New York City’s budget, economy, infrastructure, and people.

This is not a happy report, but it is a clear-eyed one. In assembling it, my office analyzed Trump’s campaign rhetoric, the Project 2025 playbook, and his first term as President.

We identified a lot of grim stuff – everything from potential cuts to education and health care, to the possibility of tariffs that could lead to inflation, to attacks on vulnerable communities, including immigrants, people who need abortion care, and LGBTQIA+ New Yorkers.

But if I know anything, it’s that New Yorkers are at their best in challenging times. We’ve lived through a lot of crises before – financial collapse, 9/11, hurricanes – and we do it by coming together, looking at the challenges, and then making plans for what to do about it.

That’s why, this morning, I also convened a cross-sector group of labor leaders, community members, advocacy organizations, business leaders, and faith leaders. The objective? Come together, review the risks, and think about how we can respond to them and be ready on Day One.

There are steps we can take right away to prepare for the Trump administration – like reinstating congestion pricing, which Governor Hochul announced today she will do! Thanks to the hard work of our coalition of transit riders, environmental advocates, and disability justice organizations, we will now have billions to invest in our subways and buses, while cutting down on gridlock and protecting our air. I look forward to Governor Hochul signing the tolling agreement with the federal government to ensure that the system is implemented before Trump’s inauguration.

There is also room for strategic partnership across state lines – after all, people in red states need infrastructure and housing just as much as New Yorkers do. And of course, I fully anticipate urgent moments where New Yorkers will be called on to stand up for each other – like we did when we rushed out to JFK airport when the Muslim ban was implemented.

John, we’re in this together. I promise to make my campaign a shared opportunity to rise to this dark and scary moment. And I promise to fight fiercely to protect our city and the New Yorkers who will face the brunt of Trump’s cruel policies.

If you’re with me, will you make a contribution of $5 or any amount to my campaign for Mayor of NYC?

There’s no silver bullet, no clear solution to being fully prepared for what lies ahead. The election results still feel like a gut-punch, and we still need time to process what four more years of Trump will look like.

But my hope, for today, is that our report and roundtable prompts discussion and action that bring people together across communities and different perspectives. We may not agree on everything, but New Yorkers love our city – and oh boy, are we going to fight for its future.

Thanks,

Brad
