EXTENDING THE COVID-19 DISASTER DECLARATION FOR THE STATE OF TEXAS
Originally issued on March 13 and extended on April 12, this disaster declaration provides the state with a number of resources to effectively serve Texans as we continue to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
I urge Texans to continue following the health and safety guidelines laid out by the CDC and Texas' team of medical experts. |
U.S AIR FORCE THUNDERBIRDS FLYOVER HONORING FRONTLINE WORKERS

RAPIDLY EXPANDING TESTING CAPABILITIES IN NURSING HOMES
Earlier this week I directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to test 100% of residents and staff in nursing homes.
This collaboration will help ensure potential clusters of COVID-19 cases are quickly detected and contained. Providing testing for vulnerable populations will save lives. |
TEXAS NATIONAL GUARD LAUNCHES FACILITY DISINFECTION TEAMS
The Texas National Guard, in coordination with HHSC, has activated Facility Disinfection Teams to limit the spread of COVID-19 in nursing homes while supporting vulnerable Texans.
Six teams have already been mobilized with more coming online. The Texas National Guard plays a crucial role in our ongoing response to COVID-19 and we are thankful for their tireless work across the state. |
$5.06B IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR TEXAS LOCAL GOVERNMENTS
This week, state leaders announced $5.06B in federal funding for local governments across Texas through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
These funds will go towards reimbursement of direct expenses incurred by cities and counties due to COVID-19. As Texas continues to respond to COVID-19, the state is working tirelessly to protect the health and safety of our communities while mitigating the economic ramifications of COVID-19. ANNOUNCING OVER $1B IN PANDEMIC FOOD BENEFITS FOR TEXAS FAMILIES
HHSC has received approval from the United States Department of Agriculture to provide more than $1B in food benefits to families with children who temporarily lost access to free or discounted meals due to COVID-19.
The Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer program will expand access to healthy and nutritious food for families and children in need during this time. To learn more about the program, click HERE. |
TDEM APPLIES FOR FEMA ASSISTANCE FUNDS TO SUPPORT TEXAS FOOD BANKS
Earlier this week, TDEM applied for FEMA category B assistance funding to provide financial support to Texas food banks. If approved, nearly $70M in funding will help Texas' network of 21 food banks shore up supplies and provide more food for Texans in need.
Our state's food banks have tirelessly served Texans throughout the COVID-19 response. We will ensure these selfless and hardworking Texans have the supplies they need to provide for those in need. |
NEARLY $635M FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES SENT TO RURAL HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19
Thank you to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for providing $635M for our rural healthcare providers to continue responding to COVID-19.

EXPANDING TEXAS NATIONAL GUARD MOBILE TESTING SITES
The Texas National Guard has set up multiple COVID-19 testing sites in the Coastal Bend.
Members of the Texas National Guard have been deployed across the state to provide more access to coronavirus testing. |
3 WALMART LOCATIONS IN EL PASO OFFERING DRIVE-THRU TESTING
Three Walmart locations in El Paso are now offering drive-thru COVID-19 testing through a partnership with the City of El Paso and eTrueNorth.
The testing is offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7 AM- 9 AM MT. Locations and additional details can be found HERE. |
TEXAS MORE THAN TRIPLES AID TO SAN ANTONIO FOOD BANK
The Lone Star State has more than tripled aid to San Antonio Food Bank. Our state is now providing $9M in funding to help hundreds and thousands of Texans in the San Antonio area.

The 2020 INDYCAR season will return to the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth on Saturday, June 6th.
The American people are eager to watch their favorite live sports again, and this race serves as an example of how we can responsibly hold sporting events while prioritizing the health of the participants and the public. This race will be held without fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but will air on NBC at 7 PM CT. |

The MLB announced owners are working towards a plan to start baseball on July 4th weekend. Hopefully we can watch America's pastime again soon. |
