As Iranian proxies continue their attacks on American troops and our ally Israel, Senator Bernie Sanders announced today that he would be forcing votes in the Senate next week to block critical arms sales to Israel.
Weakening Israel’s security as it’s engaged in a seven-front war against common enemies is dangerous for America and the Jewish state. Sanders’ Resolutions of Disapproval also undermine President Biden, whose administration signed off on these vital weapons sales that both strengthen our ally and help create American jobs.
The dangers facing Israel and America were evident in the past few days. Millions of people throughout central Israel were once again forced into bomb shelters today as Iranian proxies around the region continue to bombard the Jewish state with rockets, ballistic missiles and drones.
Meanwhile, the U.S. military announced yesterday that it was forced to defend two American Navy ships from a sophisticated Houthi attack. The coordinated Iranian-backed attack consisted of at least three anti-ship cruise missiles, five anti-ship ballistic missiles, and eight suicide drones.
And on Sunday, Iranian-backed terrorists in Syria carried out two separate attacks against U.S. service members.
America must continue to stand with our ally and ensure it has the resources and support needed to protect its families and win this war against our shared enemies.
Biden, Trump discuss hostage deal
During their meeting today at the White House, President Biden and President-elect Trump discussed efforts to reach a hostage deal to free the 101 remaining hostages in Gaza.
“We’re prepared to work with the incoming team in common cause on a bipartisan basis to do everything in our collective American power to secure the release of the hostages, both living and deceased,” White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said after the meeting.
Biden reportedly met with the families of the seven remaining American hostages later this afternoon.
Senate Republicans choose John Thune as new Majority Leader
In a closed-ballot vote, Senate Republicans chose Senator John Thune of South Dakota as the new Majority Leader when they take control of the chamber in January.
Sen. Thune has been a pro-Israel champion throughout his time in Congress, and we were proud to endorse him in 2022.
