PJI Sues Oregon's Governor on Behalf of Churches
------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Friends,

Things are about to dramatically change. Here’s why: recently liberal Governors have been abusing their powers to the significant detriment of churches and businesses across America. One example being Oregon’s Governor Katie Brown. Her emergency order has shut down churches and businesses across the state. And while temporary actions for real emergencies are to be expected, her orders have now become a blatant violation of Article A2 of the Oregon State Constitution.

That’s why PJI’s Oregon office has recently filed a major lawsuit on behalf of a number of churches to bring this abuse of authority to a halt. The lawsuit, filed in Baker County by PJI, in conjunction with Common Sense of Oregon, seeks a motion for a temporary restraining order in hopes of quickly lifting restrictions that stifle the free exercise of religion throughout Oregon.

Just this morning, (May 14th) PJI Oregon Staff Attorney Ray Hacke argued his case IN COURT and the judge is currently deliberating which we expect an answer within a day or two!

“We’ve got plaintiffs from Portland all the way south to Klamath Falls, from Lincoln City on the coast over to the eastern part of the State,” said Ray Hacke, PJI’s Oregon-based staff attorney. “There’s a rising tide of churches wanting to push back against Governor Brown’s oppressive executive orders, and this case will hopefully remind her that she is not free to dispense with constitutionally protected liberties, even in emergencies.”

Governor Brown’s executive orders are way too extreme and infringe on religious liberty far more than is necessary to preserve public health and safety. That’s why PJI is stepping up to put a stop to it.

Undoubtedly, churches and pastors are in need. Months ago, the idea of hosting online worship services was unheard of. Seeing the need, PJI’s media tech, Hanson Cook stepped in to host an online tutorial for pastors to broadcast their services online using Facebook and/or YouTube. Now, churches and pastors are anxious and doubt that they can return to physically meeting for worship. That’s why our attorneys have been working tirelessly to develop vital and timely resources to guide churches on how to safely and legally reopen. We are here to walk through this season with you. United, through your prayers and generous gifts, we can firmly stand and press on in the fight for religious freedom.

Friends, make no mistake. This case is not just about Oregon. The problem of Governors abusing their powers to trounce on our fundamental liberties is in other blue states across the nation. An eventual victory in Oregon will send a loud message to each of them that they can’t expect their tyranny to continue uncontested. And, we at PJI have proven to be willing to do just that. But, we can’t take on this challenge fully without additional support from patriots like you.
