A Message from Our CEO

Last week, our CEO Joel Berg sent out a note with his thoughts on the election results. In case you missed it, he wrote, in part:

“I am more determined than ever to work hard towards the long-term goal of an America without hunger, and I hope you are too. I still believe it’s possible – and necessary – to ensure that all Americans can afford sufficient, adequate, nutritious food.”

Save the Date: MLK Serve-A-Thon 2025

For more than 20 years, Hunger Free America has honored MLK's life's work with service and action. Working with partners across the country, we have meaningful opportunities to serve, both in-person and virtually, through volunteer events, panels, and workshops, from January 17-20, 2024.

More opportunities will be added in the coming weeks.

Answering the Call to Fight Hunger

In October, the USDA Hunger Hotline, operated by Hunger Free America, answered 2,149 calls and made 2,785 referrals. That includes more than 1,200 referrals to food pantries and food banks, and more than 1,100 referrals for programs such as SNAP, WIC and Summer EBT.

Volunteer to Make a Difference

Join us for a 30 minute information session on volunteering through Hunger Free America! We'll cover information on Hunger Free America, what we do, and how you can get involved in anti-hunger volunteering in your community in skills-based or direct service roles.  We'll also provide tips on how to search for an opportunity on our database of volunteer roles.

Advocacy Corner: Fight for SNAP

Earlier this year, the House Agriculture Committee advanced a Farm Bill proposal that would, according to the Congressional Budget Office, take away $30 billion in SNAP funding. Hunger Free America fiercely opposes this proposal, which would take away life-saving nutrition assistance from tens of millions of food insecure children, working people, veterans, people with disabilities, and older Americans.

We urge you to contact your House Representative and US Senator and implore them to reject any Farm Bill that cuts SNAP funding!
