Rep. Christine Chandler, NM House of Representatives, District 43
[[link removed]] Christine has lived in New Mexico for over three decades. Her grandparents were immigrants to this country, and while neither of her parents graduated from college, they encouraged Christine and her brothers to pursue higher education. She was fortunate to have had wonderful teacher-mentors who opened the world up to her. She believes that education is the foundation of economic success and of a vibrant democracy, so she wants to see New Mexico’s education system provide the same opportunities to our children. Christine graduated from Smith College with a degree in economics and earned law degrees from Boston College and Georgetown University. She recently retired from her career as an attorney and manager at Los Alamos National Laboratory and has continued to devote herself to improving the communities she lives in. Christine is married to George Chandler; they have three children and six grandchildren who live in Los Alamos, Carlsbad, and Oregon.
Judge Amber Chavez Baker, District Court Judge Second Judicial District, Division 22
[[link removed]] Judge Amber Chavez Baker serves as a Family Court Judge in the Second Judicial District, which encompasses Bernalillo County in New Mexico. She was appointed to the District Court by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham after being recommended by a bi-partisan Judicial Nominating Commission. She must now run in the 2020 election to keep her seat on the bench. Prior to being appointed Judge, Amber was a Domestic Relations Hearing Officer in the Second Judicial District where she conducted hearings on child support, custody, domestic violence, guardianship and divorce proceedings. Amber has dedicated her entire legal career to family law, practicing in Albuquerque and Carlsbad, NM. Amber has been a member of the NM State Bar, NM State Bar Family Law Section, NM Women’s State Bar Association, NM State Bar Children’s Section and the NM State Bar Young Lawyers Division. She also participated in the Albuquerque Bar Association and the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division. She served as Vice President of the Eddy County Bar Association while practicing law in Carlsbad.
Laura Childress, NM House of Representatives, District 56
