I am forwarding a message from our partners at the Illinois Environmental Council (IEC) about an important bill working its way through the legislature in Springfield to protect the Mahomet Aquifer from a scheme to inject CO2 into a nearby rock formation, endangering the sole source of drinking water for 1 million Illinois residents.
Support SB3968/HB5874 ?to Protect the Mahomet Aquifer and any future sole-source aquifer in Illinois.
IEC Statement and Instructions on Filing Witness Slips
Below is our first witness slip request for veto session 2024. The bill below would disallow carbon sequestration activities near the Mahomet Aquifer, a sole-source aquifer that is the primary drinking water source for nearly 1 million people.
