Opportunity: CMS Health Equity Advisory Committee
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is the federal agency that operates Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. As our work on Medicaid “unwinding” [[link removed]] illustrates, the decisions CMS makes have profound effects on the health of immigrant families. CMS is recruiting members for a new Health Equity Advisory Committee, charged with advising agency leadership on lowering systemic barriers to care facing persons of color and others “affected by persistent poverty or inequality.” CMS is seeking nominations from nonprofits, as well as individuals, and we encourage experienced PIF member organizations to consider nominating qualified HEAC members.

Food Security: Summer EBT Survey
Our partners at No Kid Hungry have championed the new Summer EBT [[link removed]] (“Sunbucks”) program launched this year by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The survey linked below explores how Summer EBT helps or can help children and their families, as well as opportunities to improve enrollment. No Kid Hungry will use survey results to inform recommendations to state leaders and community organizations and to inform its own food security advocacy efforts. While the survey is not only for immigrant families, it is important to No Kid Hungry to understand how the program served immigrant families with children and how it can be more responsive to the needs of immigrant families. The survey is open now through December, in states offering Summer EBT [[link removed]] , so please consider sharing it with the families you serve.

Health: Webinar on ACA Access for People With DACA
Curious about health insurance for DACA recipients? Given today’s politics, it’s especially important right now to encourage eligible people in immigrant families to get the care they need. You are invited to a 30 webinar on November 19th at 3pmEST/12PST hosted by our partners at the National Immigration Law Center, United We Dream, and Young Invincibles. Learn about how DACA recipients are now eligible for Affordable Care Act coverage and get answers to common questions about health insurance for DACA. You can also help to spread the word, using the media pitch and social samples in our toolkit [[link removed]] .
