An EU loophole excludes octopus from basic animal welfare protections -
putting the intelligent creature at risk of industrial farming!

These intelligent creatures are set to be crammed into tiny, inhumane
cages, unless we stop it.

Tell the EU to close the loophole and ban octopus farms!

John,

Right now, a Spanish company is racing to open the world’s first octopus
mega-farm, where over one million of these intelligent, sentient creatures
will be crammed into tiny, barren tanks, enduring immense suffering.

Octopuses are known for their complex behaviours and sensitivity. They
work together to find food, and sometimes share dens. Farmed octopuses
will face stress, aggression, and slow deaths in these conditions—all
because of a loophole in the EU’s animal welfare laws.

This loophole excludes aquatic species like octopuses from basic animal
welfare protections, allowing cruel farming practices to spread unchecked,
despite octopuses being sentient creatures capable of feeling pain.

octopus farming before it's too late!

But there’s hope: Just weeks ago, California passed a historic bill
banning octopus farming and the sale of farmed octopus meat. This
monumental victory was driven by Ekō members like you—your relentless
action helped turn this bold vision into a groundbreaking law. California
sets global trends, and when they act, the world listens. Now is our
chance to push the EU to do the same and lead the way in ending octopus
factory farming.

Octopus meat on menus and in supermarkets is driving the cruel breeding of
this highly intelligent animal. If octopus farms are allowed to
proliferate, millions of these sensitive creatures will be crammed into
aquariums until they die miserably from stress or are killed, painfully,
by icy water.

This is a critical moment. The EU must act to stop the world’s first
octopus farm in Spain before it’s too late. Let's show Europe's leadership
the world is watching and demanding this cruelty is stopped now.
