Hi John,

We’d love for you to join us in a simple but impactful action. Collectively, we have a lot of power to drive real change.

Here’s what we’re asking you to do:

Please join us in switching from Twitter/X to Bluesky.Share this message with everyone you can and ask them to do the same.

Follow us on Bluesky: @healthpoverty.bsky.social [[link removed]], we have a starter pack or two of people we think you would be interested in following.

Why is this needed?

Each time we post on Twitter/X, we help sustain a platform that Elon Musk and others use to fuel hate and division, which has real-world consequences. It also contributes further to his wealth and power.

If we post on Twitter/X, and nowhere else, we essentially give Musk an ‘exclusive’. We force people to use Twitter/X if they want to access our content.

Unfortunately, there are already examples of what Musk has done with this platform. But can we take away his power.

Should we all close our accounts on Twitter/X?

Maybe.

Or we might feel it’s important – for the moment – that we still have a voice with our audience there. Either is fine.

The key is to engage actively on Bluesky and encourage your followers to join you. This shift can reduce reliance on Twitter/X’s platform and undermine Musk’s influence.

Many users, such as ourselves, are already seeing similar engagement levels on Bluesky, even with a smaller follower base, showing the potential of the platform.

Why should Bluesky be the common platform?

We chose Bluesky for a few reasons, and think these would resonate with many other Twitter/X users:

It’s easy to switch from Twitter/X, with a similar structure and feel.Bluesky offers an engaged, supportive, growing community that values a positive, inclusive space.Bluesky is decentralised, open-source, transparent, and free from the influence of private companies. You have control over what you see, with customisable algorithms that put your interests first.

There are, of course, other alternatives. However, we felt they were less suitable, for example:

Mastodon: While an open-source, non-profit platform that offers great options for communities, it’s a bit more complex to navigate.Threads: As part of Meta, Threads can reach a large audience but actively discourages discussions on news and issue-based topics.

There’s no harm in posting on these too. It’s good to give people choices. But if we all choose different platforms, it makes it harder for an alternative to become widespread enough to challenge Twitter/X. So, we recommend including Bluesky in the platforms you use.

There’s more information about all discussed above, and why we MUST act now, on our website here [[link removed]].

Thank you in advance for any support you can give by joining Bluesky or spreading the word - such as forwarding this email to others.

If you would like to help us do that by donating financially, you can donate to us by clicking here. [[link removed]]

Obviously financial support makes a big difference, and we're truly grateful if you’re able to do that. This isn’t a fundraising email, though. More than anything, we want to work together for change, building a future with less influence from people like Elon Musk.

Thank you so much for reading!

And warm wishes,

Martin Drewry

CEO
