I want to begin by thanking you for everything you have done to advance environmental justice. Your support has brought this movement to where we stand today. Though clearly, we still have a long and tough road ahead of us.
I know many of us are grappling with different emotions, even feeling disillusioned. And that’s understandable. But it’s not over. Yes, our work just got a lot harder. But many of us have overcome tougher challenges in our lifetimes. And we are ready to fight again. Will you join us?
In the coming year we will fight against the new policies that will harm public health and set us back on our climate goals. We cannot rely on federal support for environmental justice. In this critical moment, we need supporters like you to step up more than ever to face these challenges.
The last time we faced a hostile environment for environmental justice, we endured rollbacks to environmental protections with the elimination of more than 100 federal environmental policies and regulations.
But our resilience and pushback during those tough times helped our movement rebound, stronger than ever. It laid the groundwork for Justice40, the Inflation Reduction Act and Infrastructure Act funding, the TCTAC, and more. All of those rollbacks were restored through our hard work and we made even greater gains for our movement.
Just as we did before, we will continue to resist on all fronts. We will work with our allies to track and defend every rule and regulation that may be rolled back. We will aggressively pursue state legislation, and help others do the same. And we will work together to hold our leaders accountable for the damage to our environment and our communities.
