For years, the Tonawanda Seneca Nation has been fighting the construction of a mega-industrial project on the Nation’s present-day reservation boundary in Western NY. This project would destroy over a thousand acres of biodiverse ancestral lands where citizens hunt, fish, and gather traditional medicines. We'll hear from Tonawanda Seneca leaders and learn more about how this struggle fits into the statewide movement for environmental justice and a livable climate. Check out the Brooklyn Public Library’s website or 350Brooklyn’s website for more information!
Albany 101: Intro to NY State Climate Legislation
Wednesday, November 13 at 6:30 pm
Trump guarantees the rollback, if not slaughter of, federal climate legislation. While we will have to fight back about that federal legislation (and go to DC more often), our state-wide work is more important than ever. Join this meeting to get up to speed on the basics of how Albany works, Brooklyn leaders and laggards, important climate legislation successes to date and the goals for 2025. Register online now for the Zoom meeting!
Tell NYPA to build public renewable energy now!
Wednesday, November 20 from 10 am - 12 pm and 6 - 8 pm
Tell the NY Power Authority (NYPA) to do its job and build public renewable energy! NYPA’s draft strategic plan for the next two years is out now, and it comes nowhere near meeting the state's climate goals. NYPA's plan also falls far short of its obligations under the hard-won 2023 Build Public Renewables Act. It's urgent that NYPA hears us: we need more publicly owned renewable energy now! Learn about the issues at our online testimony prep meeting on Monday, November 13, at 8 pm. Register online to get involved!
Join Power Hour to help pass Congestion Pricing
Mondays, 12 - 1 pm
Feeling a little stuffy in the nasal passages after all that crying and comfort eating things you are slightly allergic to (looking at you yeasty pizza and red wine)? Join our next Power Hour on November 18th 12-1 on zoom to help pass Congestion Pricing, so we can all breathe a little easier. Sign up online to take action because it's now or never.
Help wanted: graphic designers!

Renewable Brooklyn College: A new work group!
The City University of New York is an essential resource for our city. Faculty and students are organizing to decarbonize CUNY's many campuses, and 350Brooklyn is joining the decarbonization effort at Brooklyn College -- one of three CUNY campuses where the New York Power Authority has pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. What's not clear is how far NYPA is willing to take this mission and how much it's willing to pay. Our goal is to organize community support for turning the Brooklyn College campus into a hub for renewable energy to reduce emissions, relieve the overstretched power grid in surrounding neighborhoods, and serve as a pilot for broader decarbonization efforts. For more information email [email protected].
FROM OUR FRIENDS AND ALLIES
Help Transportation Alternatives save congestion pricing
Congestion pricing will fund New York’s public transit system, reduce pollution and crashes, and help keep our city secure and stable in a time of uncertainty. Donald Trump has made clear he is opposed to congestion pricing and will cancel it if given the chance. That will be far more difficult if congestion pricing is up and running — cleaning the air, reducing traffic, funding transit, and saving lives. Call Kathy Hochul and tell her to launch congestion pricing before Trump takes away our chance!
New York trees need you!
While 350Bk focuses on the kinds of structural changes that will slow down and then halt global warming, nevertheless we also need to respond to the immediate impacts of a changing climate as they develop. In October 0.01 inches of rain fell in New York City, the lowest recorded monthly rainfall ever. Drought is now stressing the plant life so critical to the quality of our air, to mitigating heat, and to nourishing the heart. Water the trees near you. There are wonderful resources from NYC Parks and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden that can guide you!
