Our democracy is broken.

John, so often on the (now virtual) campaign trail -- in our Town Halls, in emails, and through online questionnaires -- we hear the deep concern that folks in our community have about getting big money out of politics. They want to know: How can we restore the people’s voice in our democracy?

The fact is that we are living in an era where money plays a corrosive role in politics. Carolyn has talked extensively about this vicious cycle: Corporate PACs donate heavily to campaigns, and when it comes time to vote on a bill, those lobbyists are the first ones to get meetings. And she points out that because of this cycle -- as well as gerrymandering and non-competitive elections -- we must holistically evaluate ways to restore and amplify the voices of the American people in democratic processes.

So we’ve started right here, right now, in Washington, on this campaign. In addition to advocating for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United, for the elimination of corporate influence on our government, and for strengthened campaign finance laws -- Carolyn isn’t taking one dime of corporate money to fuel this operation.
