Dear John,
It’s been a week since Donald Trump won a second term. As we’ve been processing devastating national losses and examining where Democrats missed the mark, we know one thing: our Democratic moms outperformed Democrats nationwide in some of the most competitive races across the country and in swing states.
Out of nearly 200 Vote Mama candidates on the general election ballot, our win rate was 71%.
Where there were dark spots, we made important gains, too. In Michigan, for example, our endorsed candidates achieved a 90% win rate. We also managed to protect and expand the pro-choice majority by electing Kimberly Thomas and Kyra Harris Bolden, the first Black woman to serve on and be elected to the Michigan Supreme Court.
Our candidates achieved these results across the country. In Pennsylvania, 71% of our mamas were victorious and held onto the Democratic state House majority. In Georgia, 58% won, and in Arizona, 91% won. In federal races, 70% of our mamas were successful.
What this tells us is that the candidates we back are winning in places where Democrats need to make up for a serious loss in turnout from 2020 to 2024. We know that the fundamental rights of women and children in this country are under attack, and our mamas are now on the frontlines.
We’ve been saying from the beginning: it’s not just about one outcome or one election. It’s about changing the system, changing the structure, making it easier for moms to run for office and fight for the policies we care about.
It doesn’t happen overnight. This year, Vote Mama celebrated its fifth anniversary. We aren’t slowing down, and we want our impact over the next five years to grow exponentially — so we’re preparing for 2026, 2028, and beyond. It’s what we do NOW that’s going to impact who runs next.
As tempting as it might be to wallow, now is NOT the time to withdraw our forces and give up. It's the time to rally: because that's exactly what they DON’T want us to do. They don't want us to step up and turn this moment into collective action.
