Earlier this year, Apollinaire, the publishing director of La Dépêche, was unjustly detained for 15 days after his publication questioned the findings of a high-profile murder trial. His arrest, along with the three-month suspension of La Dépêche, underscores the increasing dangers journalists face in Togo. CPJ immediately called for his release, advocating on his behalf to Togolese authorities, and on April 9, 2024, he was freed under judicial supervision.

Apollinaire's release was a victory for press freedom, but it highlights the ongoing struggle for journalists facing censorship and persecution. CPJ continues to advocate for their protection, raising awareness through campaigns and engaging with global leaders to push for their release.
