The Trump administration does not officially take hold in Washington for two more months, but in anticipation, education advocacy groups of all stripes are already positioning themselves for what they hope, or fear, is to come.

For instance, the National Head Start Association was quick to congratulate the president-elect. The group's call for unity comes after the Project 2025 plan from the Heritage Foundation, which Donald Trump has tried to distance himself from, calls for eliminating the Office of Head Start. Jobs for the Future offered its own blueprint for the president-elect and, like other groups, called for bipartisan action.

And I attended a gathering of school choice advocates, many of whom feel sure federal support for school vouchers is imminent.

Also this week, we bring you the story of the first bachelor’s degree program at a maximum-security prison in California. And for those of you who are contemplating college, or know someone who is, check out our freshly updated College Welcome Guide, powered by reams of data, to try to discern whether a given campus would be a good fit.
