John – like you, I am processing the results of last week’s election. Know this: The fight for care is not over. Millions of households across the nation are actively engaging in tough conversations about caregiving. We stand with you.
I want to offer some small glimmers of hope.
During this election cycle, we heard both presidential candidates take positions on care. That’s a sign that we are making momentum towards the care we need. Our care is an issue that transcends political parties – it must be prioritized to support all families.
In Washington, we successfully protected the nation’s first long-term care program by defeating ballot initiative 2124. WA Cares will continue providing guaranteed, affordable long-term care coverage to the people who need it most. Now, Washington leads the way for other states to create similar programs and tackle the care crisis head-on.
We know what’s at stake, so we will continue to make our message loud and clear: Investing in care is critical to building a future where we can all thrive. Our families and economy depend on us.
We won’t stop pushing for investments in paid leave, child care, and aging and disability care. We won’t stop working to support the 105.6 million caregivers who are currently filling in the gaps that our care systems leave behind. We won’t stop until we have a fair and supportive care infrastructure that serves all of us.
In moments like these, it’s more important than ever that we rise up together and take care of each other. It won’t be easy, but we can do it together.
For now, take time to rest, check in on your loved ones, make sure you have what you need. We’ll be in touch about ways you can get involved in the fight ahead.
Thank you for everything you do for care.
With care,
Nicole Jorwic, Chief of Advocacy & Campaigns
