**In the Face of Change, LEAP’s Mission Stands Strong**
Dear John,
After an emotionally charged election week, the political winds are once again shifting in Washington, D.C. While we know many of you are still processing last Tuesday’s election results, the Law Enforcement Action Partnership (LEAP) understands that this moment brings renewed urgency. **Progress in public safety is possible no matter the political landscape, and we are more determined than ever to drive meaningful change.**
Over the years, we’ve seen shifts in leadership and policy, but one constant remained: our shared vision with you for a system that prioritizes community well-being over punishment. LEAP’s network of law enforcement professionals, advocates, and allies stands strong, ready to bridge divides and work across all viewpoints to promote approaches that build trust and safety for everyone.
**The stakes are indeed high, but LEAP’s commitment to you remains steadfast.** For over two decades, we’ve been a leading law enforcement voice for bipartisan criminal justice reform. In the past year, we’ve championed smarter, fairer drug policy, supported meaningful police accountability, and collaborated with local leaders to launch life-saving community responder programs. Still, last week’s elections brought disappointment for our work, as key ballot measures on criminal justice reform, and issues like marijuana legalization and access to promising forms of psychedelic-assisted mental health therapy didn’t turn out as we’d hoped. Even though these initiatives fell short, we know our mission cannot be deterred. The need to push for policies that prioritize health, compassion, and safety has only grown stronger.
**Now, we must be ready to protect the progress we’ve made, while advancing new opportunities at the state and local levels to bring about necessary change in policing and the criminal justice system.** With your support, we will continue this essential work to confront the status quo and move toward a system that truly serves everyone—focused on safety, dignity, and health for all communities.
Today, we invite you to stand with us as we prepare for the road ahead. Your support empowers us to:
- **Work across the aisle with policymakers** to foster fair, effective justice policies.
- **Champion breakthroughs in drug policy** that prioritize therapeutic solutions for conditions like PTSD and depression, ensuring everyone can access promising, compassionate care.
- **Advocate for and implement innovative community responder programs** that provide alternatives to traditional policing by prioritizing community engagement and restorative justice.
- **Promote evidence-based, equitable solutions** that address root causes and reduce over-reliance on punitive measures.
[Now more than ever, your commitment fuels our mission and builds hope. With your help, we’ll continue our efforts, grounded in compassion and understanding, to reshape our justice system to serve everyone fairly.]([link removed])
Thank you for standing with us, now and always. Together, we’ll build a safer and more just future for all.
Onward in solidarity,
**Lt. Diane Goldstein (Ret.), Executive Director, and the Entire LEAP Team**
