ISRA has achieved a major victory for Illinois gun owners. On November 8, Federal District Judge Stephen McGlynn ruled the Protect Illinois Communities Act (PICA) unconstitutional, striking down the state’s restrictions on the registration, possession, and purchase of commonly owned firearms.

With our partners—including the Second Amendment Foundation and Firearms Policy Coalition—the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) filed Harrel v. Raoul to defend Illinoisans’ rights. Together, we presented over 10,000 pages of evidence to secure this crucial decision, which stands to impact similar cases nationwide. 

But this isn’t over yet. We expect the State to appeal the ruling to the Seventh Circuit Appellate Court, and we are prepared to defend this decision at every level—including the U.S. Supreme Court. This critical fight will require substantial resources. Can we count on your help?

We believe we will win this lawsuit, and we also believe this lawsuit will have a ripple effect on other cases before various courts in Illinois and throughout the country. Judge McGlynn’s opinion is so well written and backed up by so much evidence that other courts and other judges will have to consider it.  It will also add constraints on the Illinois Governor and the Illinois General Assembly which would make them consider legislation more carefully that might be unconstitutional.
