Take Action this Trans Awareness Week

Trans Awareness Week < [link removed] > (Nov. 13-19) is a week to increase understanding about trans people and issues. Trans Awareness Week concludes with Trans Day of Remembrance (Nov. 20), a day to honour the lives taken due to anti-trans violence.

This Trans Awareness Week, amid rising anti-2SLGBTQI and anti-trans hate, it’s crucial to go beyond awareness and take actionable steps to support trans, nonbinary, Two Spirit, and genderfluid people. With rising misinformation, anti-trans views, and transphobic policies threatening 2SLGBTQI rights, this moment calls for allies to take action.

Egale Canada and Skipping Stone to Take Legal Action in Response to the Government of Alberta’s Discriminatory Legislation

In response to the discriminatory legislation introduced by the Government of Alberta < [link removed] > , Egale Canada and Skipping Stone confirm that they will be taking legal action.

Every person has the right to feel safe and free to be their authentic self, including young people. All deserve the ability to access health care and participate fully in their communities. Indeed, the Government of Alberta spent its first days back in the Legislature emphasizing the fundamental rights held by all Albertans to bodily autonomy and self-determination. Despite this, the government has acted directly counter to expert guidance and evidence, as well as the voices of Albertan families, and introduced policies that use fear and disinformation to target a small and vulnerable part of the community: 2SLGBTQI young people.
