Donate Now to End Guinea Worm Disease And So Many Other Causes of Suffering » |
Dear John,
Guinea worm disease has tormented humanity for at least 3,000 years, infecting millions with worms that painfully exit through lesions in the skin. Can you imagine growing up knowing you faced this ordeal? For many of the world's poorest and most vulnerable people, this always has been the case. This terrible disease stops daily life. Farming, school, and all other activities are replaced with debilitating pain.
But we are now on the brink of making Guinea worm only the second human disease, after smallpox, ever eradicated from our planet and the first without a vaccine!
Your gift today can bring us closer to this goal. When The Carter Center began leading the Guinea worm campaign in 1986 – tracking down every case and contaminated water source and teaching people how to avoid infection – more than 3.5 million people a year were infected. Now, in the first half of this year, we saw just four human cases!
Your gift now will allow us to travel to even the most remote villages, teaching how Guinea worm spreads, how to keep away from contaminated water sources, and how to use water filters to avoid infection. Halting diseases like this is just one of so many ways that you'll help end suffering around the world.

BUILD HOPE WITH A GIFT NOW »

Guinea worm isn't the only cause of suffering you'll help to end. You'll support innovative approaches that are successfully treating multiple diseases at once. Ailments such as river blindness, trachoma, and lymphatic filariasis plague communities that already struggle with severely limited resources.
Beyond better physical and mental health, your gift will also further our global efforts for democracy, fair elections, and human rights.
So please be generous when you give today. No one deserves to suffer when we have low-cost, effective methods for empowering people in need. Thank you for Building Hope as a member of the Carter Center family.

Sincerely, |
