Eliot Engel has not been in NY-16 since the coronavirus pandemic hit in March. This is unacceptable.
Jamaal Bowman for Congress

John, many of you have been asking, "where is our representative?"

According to a bombshell story in The Atlantic, Eliot Engel hasn't stepped foot in New York's 16th District since the coronavirus pandemic hit back in March.

Screenshot of the Atlantic article:

In fact, he's been more than 250 miles away from this district. While our community struggles with the impact of COVID-19, Eliot Engel has been passing his time in Potomac, Maryland, at a home he's considered his primary residence for more than ten years.

It's an outrage. Here in NY-16, we've been doing everything we can to protect our communities in this crisis. We deserve a representative who will be here, with us, in person, helping out — not one who deliberately lies about being in a district he's supposed to represent.

It's never been clearer that we need new leadership in our district, John. Thankfully, in 38 days, we have the chance to change this for good — but only if we can reach enough voters before the primary. Will you rush a $5 contribution to my campaign right now to help out?

John, I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that my representative didn't step foot in the district since March — not even once! — to check in with us during one of the worst crises to hit our community in generations.

And the worst part about all of this is that Eliot Engel has been lying about his whereabouts, claiming that he has been here with us.

Just last week, Rep. Engel said he would be in the district to help hand out face masks to those who need them. But he never showed up, instead citing work-related obligations as a committee chair as an excuse.

However, all the other committee chairs in Congress — including the ones who represent Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens — have found time to go back to help their districts.

Even a once-in-a-lifetime crisis can't even get Rep. Engel to act on behalf of the working-class communities he's supposed to represent.

Can you chip in $5, $10, or whatever you're able to give so we can beat Eliot Engel once and for all? With absentee ballots already going out, to win this primary we need to reach as many people as possible as soon as we can:

Now more than ever, I'm ready to step up to lead our district into a brighter future and fight for the things that our district needs. Thank you for always supporting me.

Yours in action,

Jamaal

P.S. As you may have seen in previous emails, we're currently in the middle of trying to reach our $10,000 mid-month goal by midnight tomorrow. If you're able to chip in, please do so here and spread the word!
