Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald

Good morning, everyone, and happy Monday!

First and foremost, I would like to thank our nation’s heroes as we celebrate this Veterans Day.

The origins of Veterans Day date back to the signing of the armistice that ended World War I—now today, we celebrate all of our nation’s veterans who have selflessly served our country and our people, one generation after the next.

I’ve worked firsthand with so many fantastic men and women during my time in the Army Reserve, and I will forever be grateful for their service and the service of so many who answer the call to serve. So please join me today in giving some extra thanks to the veterans who keep America the land of the free.

Moving onto district updates. I recently was thrilled to join ABB at the unveiling of their new production site in New Berlin!

Just last year the ABB team was celebrating the “floor pour” to kick off this project. But now, a little bit over a year later, the work is complete, and the new site looks fantastic. This project has included a spectacular $100 million investment to create this new campus in New Berlin.

The new site will increase the company’s U.S. production capacity of industrial electric drives and support over 700 workers here in Wisconsin. Including the company’s pledge to create 100 new jobs for the new site.

While we may have gathered to celebrate a brand-new production site, ABB has been in Southeast Wisconsin for decades—contributing to our vital manufacturing industry.

Wisconsin has a proud skilled workforce and relentless commitment to quality—and with nearly 500,000 Wisconsinites working in this industry, it’s no surprise that that we have the highest concentration of manufacturing jobs in the country.

Through their operations, ABB has supported our local economy and Wisconsin workers—and I am incredibly proud to have them here in our district.

Last week, Freddie Mac released new data confirming what many homebuyers have already felt—an incredibly tough housing market. Mortgage rates have now climbed for the sixth consecutive week, with the average 30-year fixed rate reaching 6.79%.

These economic conditions are just the latest challenge Americans face because of the Biden-Harris administration’s economy. This past week we saw that the state of the economy is one of the top issues for Americans across the country.

As a dedicated member of the House Financial Services Committee and the Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance, I’ve consistently advocated for policies that empower Americans to achieve homeownership through a healthier, more accessible housing market. I look forward to continuing this work with Congress back in session soon, and with a strong Republican coalition next year.

That wraps the updates from last week.

Have a great week everyone and thanks for reading along!

-Scott
