Dear John,

There has never been a better day to thank the veterans among us who make
America possible.

As our country's institutions, including the Constitution, face their
greatest challenges, it is worth remembering that those who enlist to
serve this county in uniform swear an oath not to a man or a political
party but to the idea that we are a nation governed by laws, composed of,
by and for the people.

To every generation of veterans, we thank you for your service to our
country, and for the sacrifices that have made us the world's greatest
democracy.

Your example of selfless patriotism is needed now more than ever.
