Today, Americans honor military veterans.
THIS DAY IN HISTORY
Veterans Day

World War I ended at 11AM on November 11, 1918. The following year (in 1919), President Woodrow Wilson declared Armistice Day<[link removed]> to commemorate that peace. In 1938, it became a national holiday<[link removed]>, and in 1954, it was renamed Veterans Day<[link removed]>.

Respecting our soldiers has been part of the American fabric of life long before this holiday was officially established. For example, President Abraham Lincoln said<[link removed]>:

Honor to the Soldier and Sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his country's cause. Honor...to him who braves for the common good the storms of heaven and the storms of battle.

This Veterans Day, you can attend a parade or other event in your area<[link removed]>. Perhaps even take time out of your day to visit some veterans at a local nursing home to thank them for their service. And, as always, remember to pray for the current members of the military and their families who are still sacrificing for our nation.
