MCRGO Veteran Discounts

With gratitude for their service to our country and the cause of freedom around the world, the Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners extends discounts on membership to United States military veterans and allied services, current members of the military, as well as veteran and current full-time law enforcement officers. Those who have served in the military or law enforcement benefit through a $10 discount off annual membership. This discounted rate may be stacked for multiple years. When renewing as a veteran for multiple years online, one year renewals may be done separately for as many years as the member desires. Veteran Life and Veteran Senior Life (age 60+) memberships are also discounted. Online renewal is HERE.

Additionally, U.S. Military veterans who have experienced an 80%-100% service related disability qualify for a free life membership to MCRGO by submitting proof of military disability status to the executive director. To protect privacy, that documentation will be deleted upon processing. You can email the executive director at [email protected].

Republicans Take State House

The Michigan House Republicans will have a 58-52 majority going into the 2025-2026 legislative session. This will stop any new gun control legislation following the lame duck session later this month and next. We will have an article regarding our expectations for lame duck session in next week's E'News.

Republicans defeated four Democratic incumbents including: Rep. Jaime Churches (D-Wyandotte), Rep. Jenn Hill (D-Marquette), Rep. Nate Shannon (D-Sterling Heights), and Rep. Jim Haadsma (D-Battle Creek). Republicans didn't lose any seats including their vulnerable incumbents in Oakland County who were the targets of Bloomberg's gun control groups.

Rep. Matt Hall (R-Richland Township, Kalamazoo County), this term’s minority leader, will become Michigan House Speaker in January, bringing an end to the first speakership Democrats had since Republicans took control in 2010. MCRGO-PAC and NRA-PVF supported Hall's re-election.

MCRGO is already involved in conversations with NRA-ILA and our legislative allies in regards to a firearms policy agenda for the 2025-2026 legislative session. Democrats retain control of the Michigan Senate which was not up for re-election this year. Governor Whitmer has two years left in office.

Thanks to all of you who voted. This would not have been possible without a massive increase in voter participation and new voter registration including the additional 172,249 Michigan Republicans who voted in 2024 when compared to 2020. Key to this was the successful effort to get gun owners to participate in absentee and early voting.

Michigan House Speaker-elect Matt Hall
