John,
I’m still processing the bittersweet events of this week — winning my election here in Washington while recognizing the defeats we faced nationwide.
I’ve been fielding calls from constituents over the last few days, including from young LGBTQ+ folks who fear what the future holds from a new Trump administration.
As I told King 5 News: [[link removed]] My job in Congress is to deliver results for my neighbors in the 6th District — and just like I did in the State Senate, I’ll work with my new colleagues on both sides of the aisle to do so. But when it comes to our fundamental freedoms, I will fight with everything I have to preserve and protect our democracy, our ability to control our own bodies, and our freedom to live and love authentically as ourselves.
A few other things I wanted to share:
• Election results: The people of Washington voted resoundingly for progress this year. Voters elected Bob Ferguson as our next governor, elected Democrats to every executive-level state office, and rejected three out of four right-wing ballot initiatives.
And, while votes are still being counted, we expanded our majorities in the State House and Senate.
In fact, Washington was one of only two states where Trump gained no ground relative to 2020.

The state of the House: In Washington, every House Democrat is on track to win reelection, including my friend Marie Gleusenkamp Perez in the competitive 3rd District.
But votes are still being counted in several states that will determine which party controls the House of Representatives, particularly in California.
In the coming days, I’ll be sharing opportunities to volunteer or donate to support ballot curing and recount efforts in key districts. Vote Save America has compiled several volunteer opportunities here. [[link removed]]
I remain incredibly grateful for your support in my campaign. Whatever happens next, we’ll face it together.
In service,
— Emily
