Dear John,
For many of us in the climate progress community, this last week has been tough. We’ve all worked so hard to make such inspiring and historic progress over these last four years and now, so much of it seems at risk.
But I just want to thank this amazing group of members and activists for stepping up throughout this election cycle. We mobilized more volunteers and organizers than ever before thanks to the support we receive from you. And, though the results weren’t what we wanted, you made a difference.
Climate champions from midwestern states like Michigan and Wisconsin, southwestern states like Arizona and Nevada and eastern states like North Carolina and Delaware secured victories in Senate, House and Governor races — and those champions will be there to help us in our efforts to defend climate progress and work to build coalitions to expand on it.
I’m also so inspired by the response from members and activists like you in the last few days. We’ve seen a spike in donations and in sign-ups — both so important as we look ahead to the next chapter in our fight for a safer climate future.
If you want to help support us in the fights ahead, your donation today will be matched $2 for $1, tripling your impact.
At EDF, we have traditionally been nonpartisan in our approach. We have a long track record of reaching out to leaders on all sides of the political spectrum and we see the need to work with Republicans, Democrats and Independents to make durable progress.
We have a policy here to focus on the policies and not the personalities of our leaders. And we will adhere to that policy in all of our messages in the years ahead. For all of us here, we’re focused on solutions wherever we can advance them.
I’ve often said that it is such a tragedy that when faced with the most serious environmental threat in our lifetimes, we have become so politically divided. It doesn’t have to be that way.
Climate change doesn’t care about party affiliation. And it will affect Trump voters just as much as it will Harris voters or other third party or nonvoters.
I realize this is a very divided country in many ways. But though it may sound cliché, we all want many of the most basic things — to feel safe and secure, to protect those we love, to live lives of meaning, and to leave the world better than we found it.
These are challenging times. But I want everyone reading this message to know we will stay committed in the fight for climate progress. We’re not going anywhere. As I’ve said, we are never deterred. We are determined.
Faithfully yours,
Sam Parry
