VIDEO OF THE DAY: Republican election scheme accidentally exposed on Fox
Right-wing commentator Bari Weiss went on Fox to blame Trump's victory on Democrats for obsessing over "niche issues" like trans rights — which isn't at all what defined the Harris campaign. Instead, Weiss and the rest of the GOP are trying to once again define the Democrats based on things that don't actually correspond to reality in any way shape or form — further perpetuating the fake perceptions of Democrats that leads us to lost elections like this one. We need to fight back!

Democrats need to clean house before they screw up again
Kat Abughazaleh, The New Republic: "Democratic leadership is still recovering from the whiplash of Election Day, asking itself how Kamala Harris’s exceptional campaign could have failed so spectacularly. But the answer is far simpler than they will admit: Instead of running on the bold, progressive, popular policies that helped win the White House in 2020, the Democratic Party abandoned its base to court an imaginary Liz Cheney Superfan demographic. Seemingly overnight, Harris abandoned her early efforts to stand apart from Republicans, ditching the (accurate) digs at Republican 'weirdness' in favor of weird rightward pivots of her own: tacking right on immigration, boasting about overseeing a 'lethal' military, and subbing out early progressive policies like price gouging measures for a “charm offensive” on Wall Street. If the Democratic Party doesn’t want to do what is necessary to win races, then we—all of us—will. This isn’t a time to be nice. It’s not a time to be polite. We are about to head into a new fascist era and we cannot answer that with more castrated messaging. So it’s time to transform the Democratic Party, whether its entrenched leadership wants it or not. That’s why anyone who had a leadership role in this campaign should never be allowed within throwing distance of a political operation ever again. Any prominent Democrat who didn’t fight tooth and nail to recognize voter concerns and fix the party’s trajectory should be primaried. And any person who sighs and chalks this loss up solely to racism and misogyny should be ignored."

Bob Casey's Senate race is NOT OVER
Pennsylvania Democrats: The battle for Bob Casey’s Senate seat isn’t over yet. Contrary to the calls by the media, all of the ballots in Bob Casey’s Senate race have NOT been counted. Republican Dave McCormick leads by 0.5% — around 30,000 votes — and there are still over 100,000 provisional ballots that have NOT yet been cured and counted. “Curing” is the process for mail ballots that fixes mistakes that the voter made when completing the packet so it can be accepted and counted. This means there remains a big chunk of PA voters whose votes haven't been counted — and it means we could still win this critical Senate seat for Bob Casey. America's political discordance: The Trump voters who want progressivism
Amanda Marcotte, Salon: "Perhaps out of fear of insulting their audiences, the pundits, journalists, and political consultants engaged in the lengthy post-mortem about Donald Trump's horrific victory Tuesday are avoiding the most obvious cause: ignorance. Millions of people who desperately want more progressive policies cast their ballots for a man whose agenda is exactly the opposite of what they want. The problem is most people simply do not absorb quality information. Instead, increasing numbers of Americans have a media diet that is mostly a bunch of lies, conspiracy theories, irrelevant diatribes and other such bunkum that right-wing propagandists use to deceive people. A study released by Pew Research in September showed people were exponentially more likely to get 'news' from social media detritus than legitimate news outlets. And those results almost certainly downplay the ratio of nonsense-to-real news, since most people taking the poll won't want to admit that they mostly scroll TikTok all day and haven't read an actual article in eons. Looking at newspaper sales and news site traffic, we can see that the consumption of reality-based news is plummeting. As Angelo Carusone of Media Matters told MSNBC, 'We have a country that is pickled in right-wing misinformation and rage.' Political organizers and pundits don't want to face that, because it is such a massive, hard-to-wrangle problem. So they critique Democratic 'messaging' that no one hears. They try to figure out if there are rational reasons people worry about immigration or fail to notice improvements in the economy. But what has changed profoundly in our society — and also explains the shift worldwide — is the explosion of social media and the dramatic shift towards an all-propaganda media diet for so many people."
Democratic elites blame everyone but themselves for historic collapse
Adam H. Johnson, In These Times: "Understandably, the blame game for who was responsible for this collapse is quickly underway. But, just like with the post 2016 recriminations, the very same people driving the narrative of who is responsible are themselves largely responsible — or at least in and of the same media and political class as those who are. As a result, with rare exception, those being blamed are not Democratic Party elites, liberal media institutions, or the corporate consulting world they operate in—but outside economic forces, transgender people, immigrants, and a host of either powerless minority groups or vague-to-the-point-of-meaningless generalities. 'I’m telling you, [Trump’s anti-trans] ad had a bigger impact than any ad that ran,' MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough yelled on his show two days after the election. He would go on to insist — without any evidence, of course — trans issues were harming Democrats. 'Democratic strategis' Julie Roginsky blamed 'pronouns' and campus protestors in a fairly boilerplate faux populist laundry list of woke scapegoats on CNN. Anti “woke” crusader Bari Weiss predictably blamed 'gender fluidity.' As did Matt Yglesias who...insisted that it’s important Democrats affirm that 'biological sex' is not a 'social construct.' The vice president almost never mentioned her identity, discussed housing in Yglesias’s preferred supply-side YIMBY rhetoric, and turned right on police and border policy. Yet, she still got blown out of the water. This is the beauty of blaming woke: It’s an unfalsifiable vibe — there will always be an obnoxious pink haired nonprofit caricature to bash every time the Democrats fail. That Democrats are bleeding working-class voters from all demographics is indisputable, so a guilty party has to be found. Obviously the solution cannot be a sustained discussion of economic left populism, as this would challenge the class interests of donors and corporate consultants. So the only culprits that will be discussed in our discourse, again fueled by the very same people responsible for the historic collapse, will be 'headwinds,' faceless cohorts of voters who we are told can’t have their minds changed, and vulnerable groups without the political or economic power to defend themselves."
