The crisis we’re experiencing right now is unprecedented. It demands the biggest and boldest possible response from our elected leaders in Washington.
There is new legislation in the House of Representatives that delivers. The Heroes Act includes more than $1 trillion in assistance for cities, states and towns to fund essential public services – something that enjoys the support of 84 percent of Americans.
If we don’t get this aid, it will shatter our communities. Everything we care about will be on the chopping block.
It will mean larger classroom sizes, more garbage in the streets and shoddy road repair. It will mean fewer police and corrections officers to keep us safe. It will mean you wait longer for the paramedics to come when you call 911. It will mean our hospitals are understaffed and overwhelmed. And it will mean more public service workers get a pink slip – on top of the 980,000 who lost their jobs in April.
We’re at a crossroads. If we pass the Heroes Act, we can beat this pandemic and reopen our economy. If we let this moment pass by, then this recession becomes a depression and the pillars of community strength begin to crumble in cities and towns across the country.
Thank you for the strength and courage you’ve shown under the most difficult conditions. Together, we will make sure you have the resources you need to keep doing your life-saving work.
In solidarity,
