No American should have to risk their health to vote during the coronavirus emergency.
That’s why Public Citizen is helping lead a nationwide campaign to make sure a system for easily voting by mail is in place in all 50 states for the election this November.
The U.S. House of Representatives has introduced legislation to make this happen. It would:
- Allocate an additional $3.6 billion in federal funding for states and territories to carry out vote-by-mail elections.
- Require at least two weeks of early voting.
- Permit absentee voting for any reason.
- Require states to mail a ballot (with pre-paid return postage) to every registered voter.
- Institute online and same-day registration in every state.
But Mitch McConnell is blocking comparable legislation in the Senate.
So, I need you to pick up the phone RIGHT NOW.
Use our handy “Call Your Senators” page to be connected with the office of each of your senators.
Urge your senators to support legislation matching what the House has proposed.
It will only take a minute. And don’t worry — you won’t have to debate your senator, you’ll just leave a message.
After you call, be sure to let us know how it went.
Thanks for taking action.
Stay safe.
- Robert Weissman, President of Public Citizen
