A Message from Gabe:
Greetings Rhode Islanders,
It is the honor of my lifetime to serve as your member of Member of Congress. Since being sworn nearly one year ago, I have been hard at work making sure your voice is heard in the halls of Congress.
During this time, I have pushed to lower costs, protect and expand Medicare and Social Security, create economic opportunity for Rhode Island families, and protect our freedoms. I introduced legislation to support ocean research to boost the Blue Economy, and I’m working across the aisle on bipartisan legislation to increase artificial intelligence literacy in K-12 schools. I’m pushing for legislation to reduce gun violence and keep our communities safe. I also support legislation to improve housing supply and ensure homeownership is affordable and possible for all.
Importantly, I made strong connections with Rhode Islanders in our district and assisted in dealing with Federal agencies. While traveling our district, I am always interested in hearing directly from you about priorities we should focus on in Congress. A good way to make sure I hear your voice is by signing up for our newsletter so we can stay in touch about important issues facing our community.
I firmly believe that there is more that unites us than divides us. That is why I remain committed to working with people from all walks of life, political affiliations, and interests to serve our communities and make them stronger.
I’m proud to represent Rhode Island in Congress. If there is ever anything that our office can help you with, please do not hesitate to call our Pawtucket Office at (401) 720-5600 or send us an email at [email protected].
| Sincerely, |
 |
| Gabe Amo |

In 2024, the State Department issued around 24.5 million passports, which is half a million more than in 2023, marking the third year in a row of record-breaking numbers.
To make applying for a new passport easier, the State Department introduced an Online Passport Renewal system, letting folks renew passports from the comfort of home.
Processing times were reduced from four to six weeks for routine applications to support the increase in international travel.

Rhode Island’s craft beverage industry just got a big boost! Over $306,000 in federal funding is being sent to the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management to help breweries, distilleries, and wineries go greener!
Thanks to the Environmental Protection Agency’s Pollution Prevention grant, local small businesses can adopt practices that reduce waste, save water, and use energy more efficiently.
This support means our favorite local spots can keep doing what they do best while reducing their environmental impact and contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable Rhode Island.

Amo Urges Federal Trade Commission Chair to Address Rampant Senior Fraud
Congressman Amo meeting with constituents in East Providence.
Last week, I urged the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chair Lina M. Khan to do more to prevent elder fraud in Rhode Island and across the country. According to a recent report, elder fraud is on the rise, including in Rhode Island, which has seen one of the largest increases between 2022 and 2023.
This harm to seniors is unacceptable. Elder fraud and scams prey on vulnerable communities and undermines the financial and emotional well-being of our seniors. My letter to the FTC asks for recommendations on legislation to stop scam artists and recover funds for vulnerable consumers, to hold an outreach event in our district, and for additional education materials on elder fraud to increase awareness in the community.
Stay tuned for further updates on this critical issue. In the meantime, here are some helpful resources:
- Consumer.ftc.gov: Offers consumer advice and alerts to help Rhode Islanders stay updated on the latest trends in fraud and scams.
- Pass It On: Provides older adults with information on a wide range of scams from identify theft to impersonator scams.
- Scams: Learn to spot, avoid, and report scams.
- Resources in Many Languages: Find consumer education materials in 13 different languages.

Federal Energy Bill Assistance for
Rhode Islanders
Last week, I joined my House colleagues in urging the Department of Health and Human Services to release the highest amount of funding possible for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This vital program helps about 26,000 households in Rhode Island afford heating during the winter months. As temperatures drop, it's crucial that we ensure our seniors and working families don't face a lapse in energy bill assistance. After I sent the letter, Rhode Island was awarded $24,063,792 in funding for LIHEAP.
Rhode Islanders can learn more about LIHEAP assistance at the Rhode Island Department of Human Services website, by contacting their local Community Action Program Agency, or the National Energy Assistance Referral (NEAR) hotline toll-free at: 1-866-674-6327. Households can also easily identify possible eligibility for assistance by using the LIHEAP Eligibility Tool on energyhelp.us.
