HSAC Quilters Donate 133 Placemats
Our Hurst Senior Activities Center (HSAC) Quilters choose an organization to donate to each holiday season. This year, they made 133 placemats to donate to Meals On Wheels, which will surely add a caring touch to meals delivered to those in need. These ladies use their talents, time, and hard work to bring others joy. Thank you, HSAC Quilters, for your caring and sharing hearts! Cease the Grease Roundup available November 18
This holiday season, we're making it easier than ever to Cease the Grease! The City of Hurst encourages residents to collect and recycle or safely dispose of all used fats, oils and grease. When these items are washed down the drain, it sticks inside pipes. This hardening eventually leads to build up that clogs and damages the sanitary sewer system. This can lead to a Sanitary Sewer Overflow, where raw sewage backs up into your home, lawn, neighborhood, and streets. Not only does this cause damage to our sewer system, it can also runoff into a nearby creek or stream, affecting our drinking water. In an effort to help our residents and our city, during the holiday time you can recycle your grease for FREE at our drop-off location at the north end of the Service Center (2001 Precinct Line Road) parking lot at the corner of Cannon Drive and Precinct Line Road from November 18, 2024 - January 6, 2025. For more information, click the button below.
Ambulance Subscription Applications Open
The City of Hurst is offering residents an ambulance subscription service to help offset the high costs of emergency ambulance transportation. Insurance companies routinely do not pay the entire amount of ambulance transportation, leaving the patient with the responsibility of paying the balance of the bill. The purpose of the subscription service is to cover the amount not covered by your insurance provider or Medicare. If a person does not have health care insurance, this program covers emergency medical services delivered prior to hospital arrival. For $75 per year per family, you will never have to worry about paying an ambulance bill. Medicaid Recipients are not eligible for this program. 2025 Ambulance Subscription Service enrollment runs through December 31, 2024. Winter Preparedness - Energy Saving Tips
Atmos Energy is sharing tips to help you prepare for winter. Because colder weather may impact the amount of natural gas you use, consider implementing these energy-saving tips where safe to do so:
- Lower your thermostat to 68 degrees during the day and 58 degrees when you are away from home.
- Reduce your shower and bath time. Showering and bathing can account for 40 percent of your home's hot water use.
- Operate your clothes washer, dryer, and dishwasher only when fully loaded.
- Unless a fire is burning, close your fireplace damper to prevent warm air from escaping up the chimney.
- Do not use a pool heater. Instead, run your pool pump during the coldest part of the day to circulate the water and prevent freezing.
