We hope this email finds you and your families well. As your local Aspley ward Councillors we wish to let you know that you are not alone in this crisis and that your City Council continues to work hard to help those who need it most.
There has been some disruption as we focus on essential services and colleagues move to cover those who are self-isolating or in a vulnerable group.
Non-essential services like leisure centres, libraries and museums have closed and staff have been redeployed to adult social care and supporting vulnerable residents including helping with food parcel and prescription deliveries.
A helpline set up by the City Council is there for residents requiring assistance or concerned about any friends, family or neighbours then please contact the City Council on 0115 955 555 (opt 0)
Although we are unable to provide our Councillor surgeries, we are still supporting Aspley residents and can be contacted by telephone or email - our contact details are at the bottom of this email. Here are some Aspley updates:
Fly tipping
We have a number of cases of fly-tipping in the area, not as many as expected, so thank you to those who reported them.Â
BonfiresÂ
We have received complaints about a small minority of residents who have regularly burnt waste in their gardens. Burning waste, especially toxic plastic and rubber, can create serious problems for neighbours, especially for asthmatics. Can we appeal to people not to light bonfires.Â
Social Distancing
Most people have abided by the rules. We have had to report some persistent infringement e.g regular parties. Most visited by the police have ceased.
Tree Pruning on Broxtowe Park
Trees to the rear of Eltham Drive/Close and Deepdene Way were due to be cut back in February. This has been delayed until Autumn because the Forestry Commission has not yet issued the license and it is now bird nesting season.
Finally, on behalf of all Aspley residents, we pass on our heartfelt thanks to all those NHS staff, key workers: volunteers and carers (paid and unpaid).  It has been great to see people assisting neighbours and we hope that this sense of community will continue when this virus has gone. Â
This time will pass and we will come out of this stronger and more united than ever before.
Cllr Graham Chapman, Cllr Carole McCulloch and Cllr Patience Ifediora
EvolveÂ
Volunteers for Evolve have delivered hundreds of food parcels, cooked meals, helped with prescription delivery, and many other tasks. Thank you!
NG8 Covid Support Facebook group
Those running the NG8 Covid Support Facebook site are also providing food parcels as well as running a really valuable site keeping the community in touch. Thank you!Â
Our Council WorkersÂ
Thank you to everyone is working on the front line, especially to bus drivers, street cleansing teams, refuse collectors, Nottingham City Homes trade people, Community Protection Officers and to our local police.Â
We know residents have been personally affected by Coronavirus and there have been bereavements. Â We are aware of how difficult this has been and our thoughts are with you all.
Our teams have been busy helping hundreds of people get the support they need during the coronavirus pandemic.
Here's an example of the work we’ve been doing:
We helped a family of six in Aspley, who needed general basics. The mother registered for shielding last week, but only had enough food for a couple of days. A food parcel was sent from Hope, and arrangements were made to collect a necessary prescription later in the week.
We have worked with partners across the neighbourhood to help those in need!
Thank you!
