November 8, 2024
Dear Washingtonians,
As we wrap up election week, I want to thank the DC Board of Elections and election officials across the country for conducting a free and fair election. I want to thank the DC Government employees who have been working around the clock to support and monitor events across our city, including election and inauguration events as well as our day-to-day services and operations. And I want to thank you—our community—and the nearly 300,000 DC residents who cast your votes in this election.
Like many DC residents, I am so proud of Vice President Harris. I’m proud of the values she’s represented and the people she’s inspired.
I am also ready to work with President-elect Trump. As your mayor, I have worked with three presidents, including President-elect Trump, and congressional leaders of both parties to advance the priorities of the District—infrastructure, housing affordability, downtown revitalization and our self-determination. And driven by our values, we will pursue a collaborative approach to our federal priorities in the District.
As the nation’s capital, we are proud to fulfill our role in the peaceful transition of power. We will actively support the transition process and the 60th Presidential Inauguration, and we will continue to keep the community updated on that process.
As I said at our interfaith service, no matter what happens in an election—this one or any other election—we are still Washington, DC. We stick together, we’re smart and strategic, and no matter what, we keep pushing.
Sincerely,
The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) will not collect household trash and recycling on Monday, November 11. Trash and recycling collections will “slide” for the remainder of the week into Saturday. For example, households that normally receive trash and recycling collections on Monday will be serviced on Tuesday. Leaf collection will operate on schedule.
