Dear friend,
Like you, we’re still reeling from the results of this week’s presidential election. Many folks in our communities, including our immigrant friends, neighbors, and family members, are scared and unsure about what tomorrow holds.
But as immigration advocates, here’s what we know for sure and want you to know: we’re going to continue to stand up, speak out and fight for the millions of undocumented immigrants who have lived and worked here for years, contribute to our communities every day, and are integral threads in the fabric of our nation.
We also know that despite the gutting election results this week, the numbers tell us that the majority of the public is still with us. American voters still support legal status for immigrants with deep roots here. And the stubborn truth remains that immigrants are essential to America’s past, present, and future – no matter who sits in the Oval Office.
But right now, what’s important is to take some time to grieve, be with friends and loved ones, and build community as we prepare for the difficult work ahead of us. Please know you are not alone – we will be fighting alongside you every step of the way.
Yours in the struggle,
Vanessa Cárdenas
