John,
There’s nothing I can say that will change the grief, devastation, and fear that we’re all experiencing right now. The results of this election aren’t what we hoped and worked so hard for.
We know that some truly dark times are ahead, and like you, we’re preparing for the impacts of another Trump presidency. But before we move forward, I want to express my gratitude to everyone who poured their heart and soul into this election.
The DFL and Coordinated Campaign staff did extraordinary work under extremely challenging circumstances. I’m forever indebted to them, to activists across Minnesota, and to our partners and allies who stood by us every step of the way.
While our team is remarkable, we couldn’t have executed one of the largest field operations in Minnesota history without the generosity of many volunteers and donors. Thousands of Minnesotans pitched in to support our party and our candidates, and I’m profoundly thankful to each of you.
Finally, I’d like to thank the voters who put their trust in the Minnesota DFL, preserving our majority in the Minnesota Senate, electing five outstanding women to Congress, and choosing leaders up and down the ballot who are dedicated to our party’s values. Thanks to your support, Minnesota will continue to be a beacon of blue in the Midwest.
Trump and his MAGA Republican allies are already working to enact Project 2025 nationwide. They want us to lose hope, to turn on one another, and to stop fighting back.
I know many of you are exhausted and overwhelmed. Please take the time you need to mourn, be angry, and regroup. But remember that we can’t give into despair—there’s far too much at stake.
Every one of us has an essential role to play in the tumultuous days ahead. In addition to doing everything in our power to combat Trump’s extreme and dangerous policies, we must lay the groundwork to take back the Senate and win crucial statewide races in 2026. And all of us can do important work within our communities, offering hope and support to those who need it.
As Vice President Kamala Harris said in her concession speech: “The light of America’s promise will always burn bright, as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting.”
This work won’t be easy, but it’s necessary. I’m grateful to be fighting alongside each and every one of you.
Thank you,
Ken Martin
