Email from Rep. Van Duyne Bringing integrity back to the hospice benefit... Irving, TX - On Monday, I hosted my annual Veterans Recognition Luncheon to celebrate our Texas-24 heroes! We honored 19 veterans, including 15 Vietnam veterans and four commendation recipients who continued to go above and beyond to serve our community after their time in the armed forces. I met with Tamara Velsher from the Ukrainian Chamber in Dallas-Fort Worth. We talked about how we can continue to support the Ukrainian-American community in Texas-24. I also spoke with Bill Tiffany, CEO of Avix Aero, about the Dallas-based company's innovative solutions that can help improve Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport’s efficiency. North Texas is home to an amazing aerospace industry. It was great meeting with Crystal McAnalley, Public Relations & Outreach Director from Harmony Public Schools, to continue our conversation after my tour of Harmony School of Innovation in Euless. We discussed how their STEM-focused curriculum is setting up North Texas students for success. I enjoyed meeting with the Asian American Hotel Owners Association at our district office to discuss how I’m working to support small hoteliers in Texas-24 and continuing to cut bureaucratic red tape in Washington to make it easier for them to thrive here at home. I had a nice conversation with the superintendent of Faith Family Academy, Dr. Mollie Purcell Mozley, about how these nationally recognized charter schools are setting up North Texas students for success in and out of the classroom. I also met with North Texans, Frank Cinatl and Kaela Cruz, from Abatix to discuss how expiring TCJA provisions will make it harder to save for retirement. Texas-24 Work of the Week I introduced the Enhancing Hospice Oversight and Transparency Act with my Ways and Means colleague, Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-CA-19), to restore integrity to the hospice benefit and ensure access to compassionate, high-quality care. Texas-24 Hometown Hero This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Hero is Ashley Burnett of Southlake, who raised over $15,000 for ALS research during her ice bucket challenge this summer. Thank you, Ashley, for your dedication and efforts to support those living with the disease. Congressional Internship Program Have you ever wanted to serve your community in a Congressional office?
